Arkeia Software is an engineering-centric backup software company that delivers high-performance, easy-to-use data protection solutions to the mid-market. We have innovated since our foundation in 1996. In 1999 Arkeia delivered the first professional backup solution for Linux.
Arkeia was the first backup software company to deliver commercial backup servers as software, appliances, and virtual appliances. Our hardware appliances, formerly named Edgefort appliances, were first delivered in July 2007. These appliances are ideal for ROBO (remote-office / branch-office) sites without full-time information technology staffs.
Version 8 of Arkeia Network Backup Suite delivered backup agents for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V virtualized environments, with solutions for Citrix XenServer, Parallels Server 4 Bare Metal, and Red Hat RHEV. It also delivered our backup server as a virtual appliance available on the VMware vSphere, ESX, and ESXi platforms.
Version 9 of Arkeia Network Backup Suite delivered a next-generation deduplication technology called Progressive Deduplication. Progressive deduplication was invented, patented, and marketed by Kadena Systems as the successor to variable-block dedupe beginning in 2004. Arkeia acquired Kadena in 2009.
Progressive dedupe allows mixed-side (source- and target-side), in-line, content-aware deduplication based on a combination of sliding-window and progressive matching technologies. The technology delivers higher compression with lower CPU requirements than variable-block dedupe.

Arkeia (pronounced ar-KEY-yuh), beginning in 1996, was the first company to deliver enterprise-grade backup solutions for the Linux market. We continue to provide near-universal support for Linux distributions and Open Source applications, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and OpenLDAP.
Our flagship software, Arkeia Network Backup, today supports 200 platforms including AIX, BSD, HP-UX, Linux, Macintosh, Netware, Solaris, and Windows systems. We deliver specialized hot-backup agents for over a dozen popular applications (like Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Domino servers), database management systems (like Oracle and Microsoft SQL), systems directories (like Microsoft Active Directory and eDirectory) and virtual machine environments (like VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V). Our backup servers can be managed either via our web-based user interface or via command-line/script interfaces.
We offer single-backup-server solutions for small companies, as well as federated, WAN-distributed, multi-server solutions for mid-scale enterprises or divisions of large enterprises. According to customer requirements, Arkeia Backup Servers can be deployed as a software application, as a hardware appliance, or as a virtual appliance.
However your Arkeia backup server is deployed, all our products mesh seamlessly. Install Arkeia Backup Agents on client machines and deploy the backup server as a traditional software application. If you migrate your Backup Servers to virtual or physical appliances, you don't need to modify the Backup Agents.
Deployments of Arkeia software span manufacturing, services, education, and government. Customers include Bacardi, Diebold, Ericsson, NASA, and Orange.
