What's your backup strategy?Backups can be made directly to disk or directly to tape. Backups to disk can also be copied asynchronously to tape or replicated to disks (1) on the same computer, (2) on LAN- or WAN-connected computers, or (3) in the cloud.

Backup servers
What kinds of backup server deployments are you considering?Arkeia Backup Servers can be deployed as traditional applications, as hardware appliances, or as virtual appliances. A single installation can be composed of multiple backup servers of different types. The same agent can be used with backup servers of any type. Agents may be reassigned, without reinstallation, from one backup server to another.

Backup agents

How many virtual environments need to be backed up?Arkeia Backup Agents for virtual environments backup all the virtual machines on a hypervisor (on a physical computer). These specialized agents offer an alternative to placing agents on each guest operating system. Contact us to learn more.

How many database servers need hot-backups?Backing up a running database requires the cooperation of the database management system if the database backup is to be internally consistent - and reusable upon restore. Arkeia's database agents use programming interfaces provided by the developer of each database system.

Disaster recovery and other special capabilities
Will you use Disaster Recovery (bare-metal restores)?Arkeia's 'Disaster Recovery' software allows entire computers to be restored rapidly to a bare metal platform. Typically, a full backup that includes all special system files and boot records is combined with subsequent daily differential or incremental backups. The failed computer is rebooted from an Arkeia-provided start-up image and the required (typically the latest) version of each file is restored.
Will you use storage devices not connected to the backup server?Arkeia Backup Server typically store backups to media attached to the Backup Server platform. However, Arkeia Backup Servers can also store and recover backups from storage devices attached to client computers by passing backup data through Backup Agents. Such LAN-free backups can greatly accelerate backup execution.
Will you use storage devices connected over a SAN?An Arkeia Backup Server can mediate the use of a single storage device (e.g. a large tape library) by several SAN-connected Backup Agents. Such LAN-free backups can greatly accelerate backup execution and share the use of expensive assets.
